WORLD PREMIERE 2028

Discover the Story

The Story

A love that echoes
through history.

In a time of immense power and rigid convention, Emperor Ai of the Han Dynasty formed a bond with Dong Xian that would challenge tradition, reshape a court, and leave a story still told two thousand years later.

Cut Sleeve explores love, loyalty, memory, and what it means to remain human inside the machinery of history.

Creative Vision

Not a Western frame placed over a Chinese story.

Cut Sleeve is being developed from within the social, ceremonial, and political logic of the late Han court. Ritual, rank, architecture, objects, silence, music, and spatial relationships are treated as dramatic forces rather than decoration.

01

Historically grounded

Research-led development of court life, ceremonial practice, political structures, and material culture.

02

Musically distinctive

A contemporary theatrical score shaped by period-informed sonorities, recurring motifs, and dramatic restraint.

03

Human at the center

The scale of empire is always measured against the private lives moving within it.

In Development

On the path to a 2028 world premiere.

The current development phase centers on the historically grounded development bible, two-act treatment, song architecture, score development, production design language, creative-team formation, casting strategy, and producing package.

“The record keeps appointments. Harvests. Floods. Memorials.
Sometimes, it keeps something smaller.”
